ABOUT THE EVENT
Since its inception in 1990, The Houston West Chamber of Commerce has been proud to host the annual Business & Education Partnership Luncheon, which recognizes the teachers and businesses that mentor the youth in our community. This luncheon honors outstanding local teachers from elementary, secondary, and post secondary schools who have shown excellence in spirit, energy, enthusiasm and love of learning.
The winners are selected based on interviews as well as on two 300-word essays written by the nominees about their accomplishments and philosophy of education. Teachers from the Houston, Spring Branch, Katy and Alief School Districts are nominated, as well as private schools and post-secondary teachers from colleges in the West Houston area. Winners are selected in three categories: Elementary (K – 5th Grade), Secondary (6th – 12th Grade) and Post-Secondary (Colleges and Universities).
In 2004 the Houston West Chamber of Commerce added the Educational Partnership Awards as a way to recognize businesses (& non-profits) who give so generously of their time and talent to mentor, provide internships and program support (non-cash support). Three businesses and one non-profit are selected from organizations that have 1-25 employees, 25-150 employees and over 150 employees. Each of these winners is presented with a plaque and a cash grant for the schools that they work in.
Former keynote speakers at this event include Senator Dan Patrick, Larry Dierker, Dr. Rod Paige, Dr. John Eliot, Oliver Luck and Hilton Koch. Typically garnering approximately 400-500 attendees, this luncheon is consistently a huge success in celebration of our educators.
The teachers in our community are giving the gift of knowledge to our children, our leaders of tomorrow. They care about the success of our children, as do our business partners. It is an honor to pay tribute to these educators and community supporters.
